you call the shots

- After ‘I wanna be yours’ by Arctic Monkeys

You’re lying again, drunk on your secrets
spilling from the shattered glass you smashed on the carpet, I
can’t plead anymore for your remorse, nor have
I any desire to again be held,

the butterflies you used to trap in
my stomach slowly withered, my
bubbled excitement when your name appeared now motionless, the heart
beating fast and faster but now stagnant, are

you enamored by the hurt, finding it harder
to breathe as you’re drowned by your wasted, drunken lies, to
love you was to hide,
and hiding with you was more than

enough for me, I
was the singular pawn in your game, thought
and memory that I tried to erase, I like to think that maybe
I was stronger, the regret I hold heavy, a power against you, but instead I

look at the stars out the window in the dim of my room, while you just
sit on my bed, leaving your lasting imprint that I don’t wanna
remember, and with prickled eyes I whisper to my cage of blood that I wish I never wanted to be yours.
