Friend
Oh, a friend,
So wonderful to call your own.
Your cherished comfort,
Your soothing, precious thing,
The soft cotton duck you cannot sleep without.
How good it is to hold her,
To see her, to know her
To look in her eyes and favor her
When she whispers words in your ear
You think, she’s mine, and you can’t help but
Gently cradle her heart.
Her laughter is magic
Pearls of crystal sea
Uncut diamonds, gleaming
The bunny blanket which rocks you to sleep
She kisses your cheek and hushes, goodnight!
When it’s just you and her,
The world seems so quiet,
Even the gentlest winds lay still.
You can hear her voice in a howling squall,
It’s a fairy’s star twinkling chime.
Oh, what a treasure to call your own
Dearest of dreams,
The most darling of souls.
And how fierce can your love be, how tight and how tucked
Like the sleeping bags under a midnight sky.
